About Dr. Lena Kim, H.BSc., ND
Dr. Kim earned her Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine degree from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in 2003. With more than 22 years of clinical experience, she takes a whole-person approach to care. She begins with understanding the person, not just the symptoms.
Her approach considers the many factors that may influence health. These include metabolic and blood sugar health, inflammation and immune function, digestive and liver health, nutrient status, cellular energy, and the nervous system and stress response.
Dr. Kim is registered with the College of Naturopathic Doctors of Alberta and is a member of the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors.
Naturopathic Medicine
Dr. Kim provides individualized naturopathic care using a whole-person approach. Care begins with a detailed assessment to understand your health concerns, history, and goals.
Depending on the individual, assessment and care may include:
- Comprehensive health history and assessment
- Relevant physical examination when indicated
- Review of existing laboratory results
- Laboratory testing when clinically appropriate
- Individualized nutrition and lifestyle recommendations
- Nutritional supplementation
- Patient education and discussion of treatment options
- Collaboration with other health care providers when appropriate
- Bowen Therapy
Bowen Therapy
Bowen Therapy is a gentle form of hands-on bodywork. It uses light, precise movements over muscles and other soft tissues, with short pauses incorporated throughout the session.
It may be considered by patients seeking a gentle bodywork approach, including those experiencing musculoskeletal discomfort or looking for support with relaxation. Sessions may last up to 55 minutes, and the frequency of treatment is individualized.
Your First Naturopathic Visit
Initial naturopathic visits are scheduled for up to 55 minutes. Dr. Kim will discuss your current health concerns and goals, and review your medical history, medications and supplements, nutrition, lifestyle, and other factors that may be relevant to your health.
A relevant physical examination may be performed when indicated. Existing laboratory results can be reviewed, and additional laboratory testing may be discussed when clinically appropriate.
Dr. Kim will discuss her assessment with you, answer your questions, and review appropriate next steps. When possible, initial recommendations may be provided at the first visit. In some cases, more information, testing, or assessment may be needed before a comprehensive treatment plan is developed.
If you have recent or relevant laboratory results, imaging reports, or a current list of medications and supplements, please bring them to your appointment when possible.
Initial visits may also be offered virtually when appropriate. Dr. Kim may recommend an in-person visit when a physical examination or other in-person assessment is needed.
Working Alongside Your Care Team
Dr. Kim works collaboratively with other health care professionals involved in your care. When assessment, testing, or treatment is required outside her scope of practice, she will recommend appropriate follow-up or referral.
Naturopathic care at In-Line is offered alongside the chiropractic care provided by Dr. Wing and Dr. Mulkay. When appropriate, and with patient consent, practitioners may communicate about shared patients to support coordinated care.
Regulation
Naturopathic doctors are regulated health professionals in Alberta under the Health Professions Act. The regulatory body for the profession is the College of Naturopathic Doctors of Alberta (CNDA).
